SUMMARY:FCRT- National Organization of Victim Assistance (NOVA) Crisis Response Team (CRT) Training
DESCRIPTION:FCRT’s 40 hour training focuses on fundamentals of crisis intervention tovictims of trauma. Since 1987\, FCRT has sent teams to hundreds of small-scale critical incidents as well as mass casualties. Upon request we have responded to mass shootings as in Parkland High School\, train crashes\, terrorist attack like the Pulse Night Club shooting\, hurricanes and tornadoes within Florida. When requested by NOVA \, we have sent Florida teams to national responses including the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the recent Las Vegas concert mass shooting.

DESCRIPTION:Class 1: 8am – 12pm\nClass 2: 1pm – 5pm\n\nThis class will cover the basics of N-95 respirators\, the requirements for their use\, and the processes for conducting qualitative (the hood method) and quantitative (with a Portacount machine) fit testing.  There will be hands-on instruction on how to conduct fit testing\, so participants must bring a few of the N-95 respirators that their organization uses with them to the training. During the training\, you will also learn how you can borrow our fit testing equipment (including the Portacount!) to complete your organization’s fit testing – free of charge! \nDue to the limited number of seats available (only 12 per class)\, we are first opening this training up to our Coalition MOA members. Examples of topics and common questions: \n1- Is containing decontamination run-off required by EPA or other regulations ? \n2- Does OSHA allow untrained employees to assist as “support personnel” ? \n3- Is a PAPR necessary for all chemical contamination incidents ? \n4- Is medical surveillance required for 1st Receivers prior to donning PPE ? \n5- Should water be used on victims contaminated by water-reactive chemicals ? \n6- Does OSHA really establish minimum training hours for 1st Receivers ? \n7- Do containment pools used by 1st Receivers help to prevent secondary contamination or contribute to it ? \n8- Does the 4-step decontamination process used in decon shelters help to prevent further contamination of the patients\, or does it increase the danger ? \nMost hospital decontamination operations can be simplified by knowing the “Realities” and dispelling the “Myths”. OSHA\, EPA\, Government\, and other regulations and documents with be presented to verify the information provided. Facts not opinions. \nJoe Burgess Sr. began his career in 1970 in R.I. He was Chief of a Municipal Fire Department before his retirement where he was on the State Bomb Squad and help to organize the first multi-agency hazardous materials response team in New England. He started Burgess & Associates Hot Zone USA over 30 years ago and has trained and equipped hundreds of hospitals and industries in hazmat operations and decontamination. His son Joey Jr is the now the CEO of Hot Zone and Joe Sr. is a consultant.
