SUMMARY:Respiratory Protection: Program Development and Administration  (Mar 11-15th)
DESCRIPTION:Target Audience/Disciplines\nEmergency Management\, Emergency Medical Services\, Fire Service\, Governmental Administrative\, Hazardous Materials\, Healthcare\, Law Enforcement\, Public Health\, Public Safety Communications\, and Public Works. \nOverview\nRespiratory Protection: Program Development and Administration (RP) is a three-day course that provides essential information and the skills required to develop\, implement\, administer\, and sustain a respiratory protection program that fully complies with the laws and regulations regarding emergency-response actions. \nBelow are some\, but not all\, of the critical skill sets learned during this training program: \n\nIdentify administrative components required for employers to establish a respiratory protection program in accordance with § 1910.134(c).\nApply applicable § 1910.120 standards during an emergency response.\nIdentify the requirements for personal protective equipment in accordance with § 1910.132.\nEmploy multiple technologies to conduct qualitative and quantitative fit testing in accordance with § 1910.134.\n\nThis course provides emergency responders with the unique opportunity to practice their knowledge and skills in the Nation’s only toxic chemical-agent training facility dedicated solely to emergency responders\, the Chemical\, Ordnance\, Biological\, and Radiological (COBRA) Training Facility. \nPrerequisites and Requirements\nTo be eligible for the course\, the student must successfully complete the following courses: \n\nAWR-160\, WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency Responders;\nIS-100.b\, Introduction to the Incident Command System or any of the available ICS-100; and\nIS-700.a\, National Incident Management System (NIMS)\, An Introduction.\n\nThis course is open to individuals who perform any aspect of the employer-designated respiratory protection program. \nContinuing Education Credits\nThe Center for Domestic Preparedness is authorized by IACET to offer 2.4 CEUs for this program. \nNursing\, through Alabama Board of Nursing (nurses only): 24 \nPolice Officer Standards and Training (POST)\, if approved by the student’s state: 24

SUMMARY:Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents (Mar 12-17th)
DESCRIPTION:Target Audience/Disciplines\nHospital staff members who comprise a Hospital Emergency Response Team\, such as physicians\, nurses\, administrators\, security personnel\, environmental staff\, and other hospital staff. \nOverview\nThe Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents (HERT) course addresses healthcare response at the operations level for the facility and its personnel. This three-day course prepares healthcare responders to utilize the Hospital Incident Command System — integrating into the community emergency response network while operating an Emergency Treatment Area as hospital first responders during a mass casualty incident involving patient contamination. The healthcare responders will determine and use appropriate personal protective equipment and conduct triage followed by decontamination of ambulatory and nonambulatory patients as members of a Hospital Emergency Response Team. \nBelow are some\, but not all\, of the critical skill sets learned during this training program: \n\nAnalyze the need\, composition\, and use of a Hospital Emergency Treatment Team during an emergency\, mass casualty incident\, or disaster situation.\nSummarize the organization and operation of the Hospital Incident Command System as it integrates with the Incident Command System during response to mass casualty incident.\nDifferentiate the medical responses to a variety of illnesses and injuries that may result from a mass casualty incident.\nSelect and use the appropriate level of personal protective equipment as hospital first receivers in response to a disaster involving patient contamination.\nStructure the healthcare facility Emergency Treatment Area to support medical operations in response a mass casualty incident.\nEstablish a Hospital Emergency Response Team that meets all safety requirements\, provides security to the hospital\, and efficiently manages patients for processing into the hospital facility for follow-up treatment.\nCompare decontamination methods and procedures.\nPerform Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment© (START) and JumpSTART procedures within the Emergency Treatment Area during a hospital response to a mass casualty incident involving contamination.\nConduct operations in an Emergency Treatment Area while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment in response to a mass casualty incident involving contamination.\nConduct an effective medical response to a mass casualty incident using the Hospital Emergency Response Team approach.\n\nPrerequisites and Requirements\nTo be eligible for the course\, the student must successfully complete the following courses: \n\nAWR-160\, WMD/Terrorism Awareness for Emergency Responders;\nIS-100.HCb\, Introduction to Incident Command System for Healthcare/Hospitals;\nIS-200.HCa\, Applying ICS to Healthcare Organizations; and\nIS-700.a\, National Incident Management System\, An Introduction.\nIt is recommended to have successfully completed operations-level CBRNE (chemical\, biological\, radiological\, nuclear and explosive) or hazardous-materials training as specified in 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(ii)\, at a minimum.\n\nContinuing Education Credits\nThe Center for Domestic Preparedness is authorized by IACET to offer 2.4 continuing education units for this program. \nNursing through Alabama Board of Nursing (nurses only): 24 \nContinuing Medical Education\, through University of Alabama at Birmingham (additional allied health professionals may be able to apply for these continuing medical education units): 24 \nCA Environmental Health Specialist\, through National Environmental Health Association (environmental health professionals): 32 \nPolice Officer Standards and Training (POST)\, if approved by the student’s state: 24
