Dialysis facilities serve a patient population with highly specialized and time sensitive healthcare needs. Patients receiving dialysis often depend on regularly scheduled treatments, specialized equipment, reliable utilities, clean water, medications, transportation, and trained clinical staff.
For patients with end stage renal disease, access to dialysis is not optional. Emergency preparedness must account for the specialized needs of dialysis patients and the operational requirements necessary to safely provide treatment.

Protecting Continuity of Dialysis Care
Dialysis facilities face unique operational challenges during emergencies. Preparedness must address the needs of patients while also protecting the infrastructure, resources, staff, and partnerships required to continue providing lifesaving treatment.
Continuity of Dialysis Services
Prepare to maintain or restore dialysis operations when emergencies affect normal facility operations, staffing, equipment, supplies, utilities, or access to the facility.
Power, Water & Critical Infrastructure
Plan for disruptions to electricity, water, communications, medical equipment, and other infrastructure necessary to safely provide dialysis services.
Patient Transportation & Alternate Care
Prepare for situations in which patients cannot reach their usual dialysis facility and coordinate with regional partners to support transportation, alternate treatment locations, and continuity of care.
Regional Response & Coordination
