Building Readiness Through Collaboration
The coalition works with long term care facilities and healthcare partners to strengthen preparedness before, during, and after emergencies. Through shared resources, training, exercises, and regional coordination, LTC facilities can strengthen their plans and build relationships with the organizations they may need to work alongside during a significant incident.
Long term care preparedness requires more than maintaining an emergency plan. Facilities must consider the unique needs of their residents, the availability of staff and resources, the ability to evacuate or shelter in place, continuity of clinical care, and coordination with external response partners.

Long term care facilities may face significant challenges during an emergency, particularly when residents require ongoing medical care, medications, mobility assistance, specialized equipment, or other essential services. Coalition preparedness activities help facilities identify potential risks, strengthen emergency plans, and coordinate with regional partners before an incident occurs.
Resident Safety & Evacuation
Prepare for the safe evacuation, relocation, or sheltering of residents while maintaining continuity of care and accounting for mobility, medical, behavioral, and other individual needs.
Emergency Coordination
Strengthen communication and coordination with emergency management, EMS, public health, hospitals, healthcare partners, and other organizations involved in regional response.
Continuity of Care
Prepare to maintain essential resident services during disruptions involving staffing, utilities, communications, transportation, medications, medical equipment, or other critical resources.
