The Florida Patient Care Protection Act (HB 355) was passed this year and signed into law by Governor DeSantis, requiring all hospital emergency departments (including off-campus emergency departments) to meet minimum pediatric emergency standards. It includes requiring every hospital ED to implement pediatric-specific policies and training, designate a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC), complete the National Pediatric Readiness Assessment, and ensure their comprehensive emergency management plans address pediatric and neonatal patients. The effective date of the new law is July 1, 2026
